Key Responsibilities
- Design and fabricate custom parts (brackets, frames, roll cages, exhaust systems, panels)
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions
- Measure, cut, bend, and shape metal (steel, aluminum, stainless)
- Perform welding (MIG, TIG, sometimes stick welding)
- Use fabrication tools (grinders, plasma cutters, tube benders, brake presses, etc.)
- Modify vehicle structures for performance, restoration, or customization
- Test fit and adjust fabricated components for proper function and safety
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace
- Collaborate with mechanics, painters, and restoration teams
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong welding skills (MIG/TIG required, certifications a plus)
- Experience with metal fabrication and shaping
- Ability to read measurements and use precision tools
- Understanding of vehicle structure and mechanical systems
- Problem-solving mindset (this job is rarely “paint by numbers”)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in custom builds, hot rods, restorations, or race cars
- Knowledge of CAD or design software (optional but valuable)
- Familiarity with suspension systems, chassis work, or body fabrication
- Welding certifications (AWS or similar)
Specialized Skills (Chassis & Suspension)
- Understanding of chassis design and structural load distribution
- Ability to build or modify:
- Frame rails
- Crossmembers
- Subframe connectors
- Suspension fabrication experience:
- Control arms (upper/lower)
- Shock mounts and coilover setups
- 4-link, 3-link, or custom suspension systems
- Knowledge of suspension geometry and how it affects handling and safety
- Ability to properly jig and fixture components to maintain alignment
Specialized Skills (Aluminum Fabrication)
- TIG welding aluminum (clean, strong, visually consistent welds required)
- Fabrication of aluminum components such as:
- Intake systems
- Radiators and overflow tanks
- Fuel tanks/cells
- Intercooler piping
- Panels and lightweight structures
- Knowledge of aluminum material behavior (heat control, warping, contamination)
- Surface finishing and polishing for show-quality results when required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Standing for long periods
- Working in heat, sparks, and shop environments
- Manual dexterity and attention to detail
