Job Description
IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) seeking an experienced Operations Specialist to support plant operations, lead projects, and drive system reliability and performance improvements.
Salary Rate Range for the position is $130k to $160k annually depending on experience.
Job Summary
The Operations Specialist role is designed to strengthen the facility's technical, operational, and project management capacity. This position provides dedicated oversight of capital and reliability projects while supporting daily operations, compliance, and system optimization. The Operations Specialist serves as a bridge between Operations and Maintenance, ensuring that projects, troubleshooting, and process improvements are executed efficiently and strategically.
Job Functions
Project Management
- Lead and manage multiple ongoing and new projects simultaneously.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and documentation.
- Prepare and deliver technical documents including schematics, P&IDs, and planning packages.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of equipment, materials, and services.
- Provide oversight and accountability from project initiation through completion.
Operational Support
- Partner with operations staff to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
- Provide expert support on GE LM2500 gas turbine systems and steam turbine systems.
- Collaborate with GE and OEM support teams for outage management, root cause analysis, and long-term operational planning.
- Identify and recommend system upgrades to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Support environmental and operational compliance through data reporting, technical documentation, and procedural updates.
Water and Steam Systems Management
- Manage and monitor steam and water systems to ensure compliance with plant operating parameters.
- Oversee NOx control systems to maintain environmental and regulatory compliance.
- Provide comprehensive oversight of Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Electrodeionization (EDI) water systems.
- Develop and implement wet chemistry testing and recording procedures to ensure water quality meets required specifications.
- Analyze and optimize water chemistry programs to protect plant assets and ensure the reliability of equipment.
Maintenance and Technology Support
- Support the maintenance team by identifying equipment deficiencies and recommending corrective actions.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, materials, and methodologies for improved system reliability and performance.
- Provide technical guidance for upgrades, retrofits, and preventive maintenance strategies.
Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
- 5 years of experience in power generation, industrial plant operations, or related engineering or technical field.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong knowledge of GE LM2500 or similar size turbines, steam turbine systems, and related auxiliary equipment.
- Hands-on experience with RO and EDI water systems, as well as wet chemistry testing and water quality assurance.
- Understanding of steam systems, NOx control, and industrial water chemistry management.
- Experience coordinating with OEMs, contractors, and suppliers.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
- Experience with CMMS and digital maintenance management systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and environmental reporting in a power generation environment.
- Demonstrated track record of implementing system upgrades and reliability.
- Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
- Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
- Must be willing to receive instructions, communicate effectively, and cooperate with fellow employees in the completion of operations and maintenance assignments.
- Must be familiar with the Company's safety rules applicable to this and related jobs.
- Must understand and follow the Company's lockout/tagout rules.
- Must possess effective oral and written communication skills to organize and present ideas, reports, and analyses effectively.
Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required.
- Work Schedule: The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday during regular business hours. However, the incumbent must be available to adjust their schedule as necessary to support operational requirements, including but not limited to annual plant outages, maintenance activities, and other conditions that may arise at the facility including on-call at certain periods.
- Includes working indoors and outdoors.
- Physical requirements include: possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.
- All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
- Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme heat and cold conditions.
