Position summary:

The CNC Machinist I assists with the set-up, operation, and programming of computer numerical control (CNC) equipment used to produce precision parts and instruments. Work performed is basic and performed under direct supervision.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Assists with planning machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters
  • Provides input in Interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Supports programming machining equipment, including calculating requirements using basic math and trigonometry
  • Machines parts to specification using CNC machining equipment
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations

  • Incumbent will be required to use a computer with keyboard, telephone or handheld mobile device for extended periods of time, and office machinery as needed.
  • Individual will be required to use basic hand tools.
  • The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts while performing the duties of this job.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • Work involves occasional exposure to unpleasant elements, such as fumes, loud noises, etc.
  • Individual will be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally, and/or up to twenty (20) pounds frequently, and/or up to ten (10) pounds constantly.
  • Work involves long periods of standing.
  • Incumbent must be able to read, see, hear, and speak.

Workdays and shifts:

Position works Monday – Thursday 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM or Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM or Monday – Friday 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Job training will be daylight hours Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Education/Certification(s)/License(s) required:

High School Diploma or GED; and/or equivalent work experience.

Experience/Other required:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Accreditation from a technical school or skilled trades program
  • Knowledgeable math and trigonometry skills
  • Working knowledge of G&M programming code editing
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting dimensioned blueprints and hand measuring tools
  • Familiarity with basic machining setups

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a CNC machinist apprenticeship program
  • 6 months of experience in a similar role
  • Prior experience making tool wear, tool, and work offsets

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in an air-conditioned manufacturing environment
  • Work is performed around moving mechanical parts and a moderately high noise level

Standing, sitting, bending, lifting up to 40 pounds, and performing repetitive motions is required

Monday - Friday; 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Full-time; 40 hours
