General Job Description
The Staff Auditor supports the Internal Audit function through the execution of audit fieldwork across SOX compliance, internal controls over financial reporting, and selected operational processes. This role is designed to develop foundational audit skills, business understanding, and professional judgment within a decentralized, publicly traded organization.
The Staff Auditor works under close supervision and follows established audit methodologies and procedures. While SOX compliance is the primary focus, the role will also gain exposure to operational and process audits as the department expands beyond compliance-driven work.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute audit fieldwork related to SOX (ICFR), including walkthroughs, control testing, and documentation.
- Perform testing of key financial and operational controls across multiple business units.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and well-organized audit workpapers that support audit conclusions.
- Assist in identifying control deficiencies, inconsistencies, and process gaps.
- Support the preparation of audit observations and supporting documentation.
- Participate in meetings with process owners to understand workflows, risks, and controls.
- Assist with audit planning activities such as population analysis and sample selection.
- Support operational, financial, and compliance audits, special projects, and ad hoc reviews as assigned.
- Participate in inventory observations and limited site visits as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to internal audit standards and professional ethics.
- Works closely with Senior Auditors and Internal Audit Managers on assigned engagements.
- Interacts with accounting, finance, and operational personnel during walkthroughs and testing.
- Supports communication with IT and other functional teams under supervision.
- Assists with documentation and requests from external auditors as directed.
- Performs work under close supervision using defined procedures and methodologies.
- Exercises judgment in identifying missing information, inconsistencies, or potential control issues.
- Escalates issues and questions appropriately.
- Complexity increases as familiarity with processes and systems grows.
- No independent decision-making authority.
- Executes assigned procedures and escalates findings, risks, and questions to senior team members.

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Progress toward CPA, CIA, or CISA a plus.

- Internship or early career exposure to audit or public accounting preferred.
