Job Summary: The Production Expediter moves materials and finished goods in the plant or on plant grounds with industrial lift trucks and other material handling equipment. Supports assembly operations by ensuring components and sub-assemblies are staged and available to meet production requirements. Receives specific work assignments under the general supervision of the Production Support Lead and resolves most problems with limited supervisory assistance

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:

  • The Production Expediter has a primary function of organizing, staging, and delivering material for specific jobs and supporting production in a manner that prevents work stoppages in the production area.
  • Acts as the interface between Materials and Production, collaborating daily with work centers to facilitate the flow of materials, parts, and picks required to fulfill customer orders and jobs.
  • Moves materials from storage or work sites to designated areas using power equipment (e.g., industrial trucks, power hoists) or, when appropriate, by hand.
  • Loads/unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves or into or from vehicles.
  • Installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent in-transit movement or damage.
  • Able to interpret basic drawings for part identification.
  • Works on continuous improvement and other projects as directed by Production Support Lead.
  • Cleans and maintains work area (daily), completes material handling equipment safety check lists and maintains other tools/equipment.
  • Works in a safe manner at all times.
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with and adheres to IEA’s ISO and Quality standards.
  • Contributes to the Company’s product improvement efforts and supports IEA’s Six Sigma efforts.

Physical Demands:

  • Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 100 (infrequently), 50 (occasionally), 25 (frequently).
  • Maximum moving requirement (pounds): 300 with assistance.
  • Maintaining physical condition is necessary for the following: Frequent lifting, carrying, standing, sitting (operating forklift), walking, climbing, crouching, stooping, squatting, and twisting upper body.
  • Working at heights off the ground up to 20 feet.
  • Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.

Work Environment:

  • Work location: Metal fabrication/assembly shop including oven area.
  • Exposure to: Fumes, airborne particles, extreme heat (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment, sharp materials.
  • Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses, gloves, and safety shoes.
Qualifications:

Position Requirements:

  • Key skills, abilities, and knowledge: 
    • Ability to read and understand job requirements, shop drawings, bills of material and blueprints.
    • Ability to operate industrial equipment including lift trucks, power hoists, etc.
    • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.
  • Experiential: One or more years of material handling or related experience is desirable.
  • Educational: Related technical training (high school or beyond) is desirable but not essential.
  • Certificates, Licenses: Forklift operator certification.
