Are you passionate about ensuring patients get the medications they need without delays? Our well-established medical group is seeking a Medical Authorization Specialist to play a vital role in patient care by managing prior authorizations for high-cost, specialty medications—including biologics, injectables, and infusion therapies. In this key administrative position, you'll be the bridge between providers, payers, pharmacies, and patients, ensuring access to life-changing treatments.
What You’ll Do:
- Review provider orders for specialty medications and navigate payer-specific prior authorization requirements.
- Submit and manage prior authorizations for high-cost medications through payer portals, fax, and phone.
- Monitor daily authorization statuses to prevent delays in patient care.
- Prepare and submit clinical documentation, letters of medical necessity, and appeals when needed.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, billing teams, and external specialty pharmacies to coordinate care seamlessly.
- Track approvals/denials and document thoroughly in the patient EMR.
- Stay up-to-date on insurance guidelines, including Medicare, Medicaid, commercial plans, and specialty pharmacy benefit managers.
What We’re Looking For:
- 2 years of experience in prior authorizations for specialty or high-cost medications preferred.
- Medical Assistant or LPN preferred.
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance, Medicare Part B & D, and pharmacy vs. medical benefit distinctions.
- Experience with payer portals.
- Familiarity with specialty medications for chronic conditions is a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage a high-volume workload.
- EMR experience required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
