Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Bus Operations Manager to lead our Transportation Services team. Bus operations supports a 24/7 operation, with primary hours on a standard 4x10 schedule. We are looking for a dynamic leader who will develop and grow our team, communicate a clear long-term vision and strategy, build team cohesiveness, and drive effective problem solving and collaboration to address challenges as they arise.

In this role, you will develop and execute operational strategies that support INL's mission of scientific excellence, energy leadership, and national security. Your decisions will have meaningful impact on your team and the broader organization, and your work will shape the policies and practices that keep our workforce moving safely and efficiently across our sites.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

  • Manage the activities of the Transportation Services department through subordinate supervisors and professionals, providing guidance within the latitude of established company policies.
  • Responsible for the effective operation of activities of major significance to our organization. Decisions impact others in the immediate team and influence methods and techniques.
  • Execute financials, business planning, organizational priorities, and workforce planning. Ensure that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained.
  • Typically manage employees who perform similar tasks. Will manage supervisors, exempt, and non-exempt staff, including represented employees.
  • Coordinate with various departments, including human resources, labor relations, and union leadership as needed.
  • Receive objective-based assignments and determine resources to meet schedules and goals.
  • Responsible for a single function, location, and technical discipline.
  • Recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that affect the department or multiple disciplines.
  • Help develop overall goals and long-term goals of the department and possibly the division.
  • Work with subordinate supervisors, customers, and functional peer group professionals, involving matters between sections and multiple units.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure Bus operations meet needs and stay within budget.
  • Work closely with Campus/Site Senior Leadership and Facility Managers at INL campuses (including IEC, NRF, and SMC) to ensure transportation services are meeting customer needs regarding schedules, routes, start/stop times, and pickup locations.
  • Partner with main contacts outside own area of expertise and other external partners.
  • Communicate results and recommendations across disciplines.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of relevant experience or Master's degree and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience, preferably managing large departments and building teams. Prior experience managing and developing front-line managers is required.
  • Experience managing a represented workforce is preferred.
  • Experience within the transportation industry is ideal but not required.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information

  • The target pay range for this position is $158,712 – $237,174 annually. The full pay range is $107,844 – $274,980. Compensation decisions at Idaho National Laboratory are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
