The Idaho Department of Labor's Information Technology bureau is seeking a skilled .NET Core Software Engineer II with strong SQL Server expertise to design, develop, maintain and support robust web and backend applications. The ideal candidate will have 1 - 5 years of experience in .NET Core development, a solid understanding of SQL, and a passion for writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code. This position is located in Boise.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance and support web and backend applications using C# and .NET .
- Develop and maintain applications using ASP.NET Core MVC, Web API, and related Microsoft technologies.
- Design and optimize SQL Server solutions, including complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, database objects, and performance improvements.
- Develop and integrate REST APIs and service-based applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application, database, and production issues.
- Participate in application design discussions, code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support.
- Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into maintainable technical solutions.
- Apply sound software engineering practices for security, performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Contribute to automated testing, source-control, CI/CD, and other engineering practices that improve software quality and delivery.
- Develop and support business solutions using SharePoint, Power Apps, and Power Automate, including forms, workflows, and process automation, as needed.
- Evaluate and apply appropriate technologies and development practices to continuously improve existing applications and development processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Good knowledge of:
- Software architecture, development, and testing practices
- Programming languages, software development tool suites and managing source code
Experience:
- Creating, interpreting and documenting user requirements
- Coding new systems and making code changes to existing production systems, testing and deploying production systems
Desired Qualifications:
The following qualifications are not required but may help a candidate in this position.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Professional software development experience using C# and .NET .
- Experience developing web applications with ASP.NET Core MVC and Web API.
- Strong SQL Server and T-SQL skills, including writing complex queries, stored procedures, and troubleshooting database performance.
- Experience using Entity Framework Core or another object-relational mapping framework.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, and common software design patterns.
- Experience designing or consuming RESTful APIs.
- Experience with Git or another modern source-control system.
- Experience with automated unit testing using frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest.
- Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Exposure to a modern front-end framework such as Angular, React, or Blazor.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with SharePoint, Power Apps, or Power Automate.
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and nontechnical team members.
