Locksmith Technician / Technician Trainee

Job Overview

Icon Locksmith is looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined person to join our team as a Locksmith Technician or Technician Trainee.

Previous locksmith experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right person who has a strong work ethic, a good attitude and the ability to work with tools and solve mechanical problems.

Candidates with experience in automotive repair, construction, maintenance, low-voltage installation, access control, garage doors, appliance repair or other skilled trades are strongly encouraged to apply.

This is an opportunity to learn a valuable skilled trade and develop into a technician capable of handling residential, commercial, automotive and electronic security work.

Compensation

• Approximately $25 per hour starting pay for candidates with relevant mechanical or technical experience
• Entry-level compensation may start lower for candidates requiring complete training
• Higher compensation may be available for experienced locksmith or access-control technicians
• Wage reviews and advancement are based on demonstrated skills, dependability and ability to complete service calls independently

Responsibilities

• Rekey, repair, install and replace residential and commercial locks
• Cut and duplicate keys
• Install door hardware, deadbolts, closers and related security products
• Assist with automotive keys, remotes and programming
• Diagnose mechanical lock and door-hardware problems
• Assist with access-control and electronic security installations
• Travel to customer homes, businesses and vehicles
• Clearly explain repairs and recommendations to customers
• Document completed work, collect payment and use company software
• Maintain an organized service vehicle and work area
• Participate in shop training and supervised field service calls

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand and power tools
• Ability to accurately measure, drill, assemble and troubleshoot
• Dependable, punctual and able to follow instructions
• Professional appearance and communication skills
• Patient and detail-oriented
• Comfortable working independently after training
• Basic smartphone and computer skills
• Valid driver’s license
• Acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass applicable background and employment screening
• Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds and work on your feet
• Willingness to work occasional after-hours or emergency calls as scheduled

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following is helpful, but not required:

• Locksmithing
• Automotive or diesel repair
• Construction or finish carpentry
• Door and hardware installation
• Property or facility maintenance
• Low-voltage wiring
• Alarm systems or access control
• Garage door installation or repair
• Appliance or equipment repair
• Welding, fabrication or machining
