What are the responsibilities and job description for the Power System Engineer position at ICON Consultants, LP?
Principal Electrical Power Systems Engineer
Data Center and Mission-Critical Infrastructure
Location: Plano, TX 75024 and Dallas-Fort Worth Area
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $171,000 to $193,500
This Role Is for an Engineer Others Turn To
Some electrical engineers design individual components. Others understand the entire power system, recognize where problems will emerge, and make the decisions that keep mission-critical infrastructure operating.
We are looking for the second kind.
This position is designed for a senior technical expert who has spent a significant portion of their career designing medium-voltage and low-voltage power systems. You will combine deep engineering knowledge with practical execution experience to help develop electrical power infrastructure for data center and mission-critical environments.
You will also serve as a trusted technical interface among customers, suppliers, and engineering teams. Success requires more than producing sound designs. You must be able to explain technical decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, challenge assumptions, troubleshoot complex issues, and guide projects from concept through implementation.
What You Will Bring
You will apply your experience across power distribution systems and power conversion technologies, including:
- Medium-voltage and low-voltage power systems
- Electrical power distribution
- Uninterruptible power supply systems
- Converters and inverters
- Rectifiers
- Power electronics
- Data center or mission-critical electrical infrastructure
Your value will come from understanding how these technologies operate together as a complete system, not simply from having worked around them.
What You Will Be Trusted to Do
- Provide technical leadership for complex electrical power system initiatives.
- Design and evaluate medium-voltage and low-voltage power systems.
- Make sound engineering decisions with limited direction.
- Identify technical risks and potential system issues before they affect execution.
- Evaluate design options, technical solutions, and engineering tradeoffs.
- Troubleshoot electrical power and power conversion issues.
- Translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Represent the technical side of the business in discussions with customers and suppliers.
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams to ensure technical requirements are understood and executed.
- Help move projects from early-stage concepts through implementation.
- Build credibility with technical and nontechnical stakeholders through clear, confident communication.
Non-Negotiable Qualifications
To be considered, candidates must have:
- 12 or more years of electrical engineering experience
- At least 7 years of experience designing medium-voltage and low-voltage power systems
- Advanced expertise in power distribution, UPS systems, converters, inverters, rectifiers, and power electronics
- Experience supporting data center or other mission-critical electrical infrastructure
- Experience serving as a technical interface with customers, suppliers, and engineering teams
- The ability to provide engineering leadership and make independent technical decisions
- Strong customer-facing communication and stakeholder management capabilities
- Real-world experience carrying technical solutions from concept through implementation
Distinguished-Level Consideration
Candidates with 17 or more years of relevant experience may be considered for a Distinguished-level position with an increased salary range.
The Standard for This Position
This is not an entry-level design role, a narrow component engineering assignment, or a position for someone with limited exposure to power systems.
We are seeking an engineer who has already solved difficult electrical power challenges, understands the consequences of design decisions, and can contribute with minimal ramp-up. If you can move confidently between detailed engineering discussions, customer conversations, supplier evaluations, and project execution, this role offers an opportunity to operate as one of the organization’s key technical experts.
Apply if your experience reflects genuine technical depth, engineering judgment, and leadership within electrical power systems.
