What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff / Principal Security Engineer position at Iceberg?
I’m looking for an experienced security engineer who knows what it’s like to operate in a small security team with a very large technical footprint.
You may have been a Founding Security Engineer, an early security hire at a startup, or a Staff/Principal-level engineer in a small team where you couldn’t simply pass problems to another security function. You’ve had to identify the problem, design the solution and help build it.
The difference here is the scale.
You’ll be applying that mentality to an environment spanning large Linux estates, Kubernetes and significant high-performance compute infrastructure, working directly with engineers and researchers to solve security problems that don't always have an off-the-shelf answer.
This isn't a role for someone who has spent their career in one narrow area of security. We're looking for engineers who can move across infrastructure, platform, cloud and security engineering depending on the problem in front of them.
We're particularly interested in experience across:
- Linux and systems security
- Kubernetes and container security
- Cloud and infrastructure security
- Security engineering and automation
- Python, Go or similar programming
- IAM, authentication and access controls
- Detection, vulnerability management and security tooling
- HPC, GPU or other large-scale compute environments
- Securing AI and agentic systems
You don't need every one of those.
What matters more is that you're a builder, technically curious, comfortable working without a huge security organisation around you, and capable of solving unfamiliar security problems alongside very strong engineers.
We're particularly interested in people coming from early-stage technology companies, AI companies, infrastructure businesses, cloud-native organisations, or small security teams within larger engineering environments.
The role is hybrid, and the compensation has been designed to compete with frontier AI labs and other top-tier technology organisations for exceptional engineering talent.
If you've enjoyed the ownership and breadth of working in a small security team but want to apply that experience to infrastructure operating at a completely different level of scale, I'd be interested in speaking.
