The Role
As an RF Engineering Lead, you’ll be responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of advanced RF and microwave systems across the full product lifecycle.
You’ll combine hands-on engineering expertise with leadership responsibilities, acting as the technical authority while driving best practice across projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of RF circuits, subsystems, and system-level architectures
- Define RF system performance through cascade analysis and link budgets for radar, communications, and telemetry systems
- Oversee simulation, modelling, and validation using tools such as ADS, AWR, HFSS, CST, and MATLAB
- Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements
- Act as the RF technical authority across design reviews including PDR, CDR, and TRR
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality
- Support NPI activities, ensuring a smooth transition from design into production
- Lead and develop a team of RF engineers and technicians
- Contribute to bids and proposals through technical input and risk assessment
- Engage with customers and external partners on technical requirements
- Drive continuous improvement across RF design processes and methodologies
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong background in RF and microwave engineering including design, simulation, and integration
- Experience delivering RF systems within aerospace, defence, or other high-reliability environments
- Hands-on experience with RF lab equipment such as VNAs and spectrum analysers
- Proven leadership or technical team management experience
- Understanding of full product development lifecycle and regulated industry standards
- RF system design, electromagnetic simulation, and circuit optimisation
- RF testing, measurement, and validation
- Ability to align engineering solutions with business and customer objectives
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Leadership capability including mentoring, coaching, and team development
- Must be eligible for full security clearance
- 9-day fortnight with hybrid working and flexitime
