Assistant Controller
Overview
A leading, privately held owner and operator of communications infrastructure is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Assistant Controller to support its growing finance organization. This role will be instrumental in managing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, and supporting a scalable, best-in-class accounting function.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical accounting foundation, experience in a complex, asset-heavy environment (e.g., real estate, infrastructure, or REIT), and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Close
- Oversee and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses
- Support the preparation of internal and external financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Technical Accounting
- Research and apply accounting guidance for complex transactions, including revenue recognition, leases, and asset capitalization
- Draft technical accounting memos and support audits related to key accounting positions
- Ensure compliance with evolving accounting standards and reporting requirements
- Operational Accounting Oversight
- Supervise key accounting functions including general ledger, fixed assets, and lease accounting
- Partner with FP&A and operational teams to ensure alignment between financial reporting and business performance
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability
- Internal Controls & Audit
- Maintain and strengthen internal control processes and documentation
- Serve as a primary liaison with external auditors and support annual audit and quarterly review processes
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements
- Team Leadership
- Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a high-performance, collaborative team environment
- Assist in building a scalable organizational structure to support continued growth
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s preferred)
- CPA required
- 6–10 years of progressive accounting experience (combination of public accounting and industry preferred)
- Experience in real estate, infrastructure, or asset-intensive industries strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
