Job Description
The Daily Beast is seeking a motivated and dependable writer and reporter to join our award-winning team, focused on the production of a new newsletter covering the world of prediction markets and online betting. The writer will be responsible for covering and developing this beat as part of the Daily Beast’s growing newsletter business. They will deliver sharp and original reporting on prediction markets and betting platforms, and the intersection of this industry with politics, technology, and culture.
Ideal candidates are newshounds who can work quickly, write cleanly and with flair, and both take initiative and direction. They will be able to produce stories that stay a half-step ahead of the competition and weave interviews, anecdotes, and exclusive details into compelling narratives. They will be full of ideas and possess a growing network of sources and contacts on which to build original reporting and scoops. They will have a solid understanding of the newsletter landscape and how to succeed in this space, and be confident in engaging readers and curating cross-functional content.
Qualifications
The pay range for this full-time position is $59,000 - $65,000. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, experience, and other factors. Qualifications
- One to two years’ experience writing breaking news at a fast pace, ideally for large-scale outlets and with a focus on business/tech topics.
- A voracious news diet focused on prediction markets, online betting, financial reporting, and the key characters leasing these platforms.
- A strong, confident writer’s voice.
- A team player, willing and able to collaborate with editors and other reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage.
- A self-starter who can conceive and execute stories with impact; able to take initiative, receive constructive feedback, and work with minimal supervision.
- Comfort meeting quick deadlines, and flexibility to work evening/weekend hours where needed.
- Prior knowledge of a content management system is a plus. Prior knowledge of social media and comfort on camera is also a plus.
