i4COLOR is seeking a part-time temporary Prepress Operator to support production workload during the summer and potentially into the early fall, depending on workload and project needs. This role is ideal for an experienced prepress professional who can quickly learn i4COLOR’s workflows and contribute high-quality technical expertise while helping the team meet increased production demands.
As a Prepress Operator at i4COLOR, you’ll prepare print-ready files for Litho, Flexo, Gravure, and Digital print methods, working with our production and account teams. Responsibilities include preflighting, applying color corrections and separations, trapping, and using Esko Viewer to inspect content while ensuring alignment with client specifications and vendor requirements.
You’ll work with both packaging and non-packaging mechanicals while following i4COLOR’s production standards, internal procedures, and client requirements. While not a core function, this role may occasionally offer opportunities to support packaging production design for those interested in expanding their technical scope.

Preflight Files
- Review project instructions and incoming files for production clarity.
- Check for missing fonts and links, incorrect formats, color modes, and image quality
- Communicate file issues or deviations clearly to the Account Manager for resolution
Prepare Color Separations
- Adjust files based on client specifications and brand consistency
- Apply color correction and retouching as needed, including GCR per vendor requirements
- Add traps, knockouts, overprints, and holdbacks based on print method and file type
- Verify technical standards like type size, line weight, and screen builds meet vendor specifications
- Apply artwork distortion for shrink packaging as required
- Work across Litho, Flexo, Gravure, and Digital print methods and processes
- Maintain complete file documentation and quality control records in accordance with internal procedures
Proofing & Quality Control
- Use Esko Viewer to inspect and compare files for accuracy
- Review instructions and references in the MIS system to ensure nothing is missed
- Output proofs and compare them to client files for content and color accuracy
- Complete internal checklists and flag any issues before final release
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate with Account Managers to keep timelines and file expectations clear
- Communicate updates, questions, and changes in a professional and friendly way
- Help solve production issues calmly and efficiently under tight timelines
- Document project changes accurately in the internal system
Support for Packaging Renders (As Needed)
- Build simple 3D carton structures and apply scene settings
- Create brand-accurate renders using supplied artwork and approved software
- 3–5 years in a prepress, print production, or similar technical environment
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and MacOS
- Experienced with Esko Pilot Viewer and DeskPack; familiarity with Esko Automation Engine workflow or Studio is a plus
- Organized, focused, and consistent under pressure, with strong attention to detail
- Effective communicator and collaborative team member with ability to change priorities
- Understanding of packaging specs and standard print methods and workflows (Flexo, Litho, Gravure, Digital)
This position is primarily office-based and involves regular use of prepress and production software. It requires the ability to sit for extended periods, maintain focus, and perform detailed work with accuracy. Occasional lifting or movement of materials up to 15 pounds may be required. The work is performed in a controlled environment with standard lighting and minimal noise. The role also demands flexibility to manage fluctuating workloads, meet deadlines, and comply with safety and ergonomic standards.
