Position Summary

The Nurse Manager assumes primary responsibility and 24/7 accountability for the effective implementation of nursing practice and operational activities within assigned areas. This role influences departmental outcomes through the interpretation, implementation, and evaluation of organizational and departmental goals, policies, procedures, and standards.

The Nurse Manager facilitates communication and collaboration across departments to promote excellence in patient care, patient experience, safety, and clinical outcomes. The position is responsible for effective utilization of staffing and material resources to ensure high-quality, therapeutically effective, safe, and cost-conscious patient care.

The Nurse Manager also promotes the professional development of nursing and administrative support staff and fosters a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in establishing and implementing annual goals and objectives for assigned units or departments.
• Monitor daily operations, measure progress toward established goals, identify operational issues, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Advocate for patients and families by ensuring patient rights are respected and concerns regarding patient experience and satisfaction are appropriately addressed.
• Direct patient care activities in accordance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, licensing, and professional standards.
• Participate in the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of nursing and organizational policies and procedures.
• Participate in interdisciplinary committees, task forces, and initiatives focused on improving patient care, safety, quality, and outcomes.
• Collaborate with department leaders and hospital leadership to address staffing, operational, clinical, and employee-related issues.
• Participate in and direct staff during emergency preparedness, response, and disaster management activities.
• Develop, communicate, and maintain unit standards, protocols, policies, and procedures in response to evolving nursing practices and patient care needs.
• Collaborate with Human Resources and organizational leadership to recruit, interview, select, and onboard qualified staff.
• Provide coaching, counseling, guidance, and corrective action when necessary to promote adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
• Complete timely performance evaluations that recognize accomplishments, address development opportunities, and support professional growth.
• Maintain accurate employee records, including licensure, certifications, credentials, orientation documentation, competency assessments, skills checklists, and continuing education requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or related field as required by the organization.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state or eligibility under a recognized compact licensure arrangement.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practice, patient safety, quality improvement, staffing, and healthcare operations.
• Ability to effectively lead, coach, develop, and evaluate clinical staff.
• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
