What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Coordinator position at I Want To Mow Your Lawn ®?
Company Description
I Want To Mow Your Lawn ® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2020 at the onset of the pandemic to provide free lawn care and exterior home maintenance to seniors, military veterans, people with disabilities, and under-resourced families. Built on a mission to preserve dignity, enable independence, and build community, we connect volunteers with neighbors in need — today, 1,939 volunteers across all 50 states, with 526 households served through 2,928 service visits. Our work has earned national media coverage and support from partners including Kubota, and in 2026 we were awarded two AARP Community Challenge grants to make our hometown of Wayne, NJ safer for older residents.
Role Description
This is a paid, one-month Field Coordinator internship (hybrid, based in Wayne, NJ) supporting our AARP-funded “Safe Steps to Home” project:
making 30 older neighbors’ homes safer before winter by clearing walkways, reducing trip hazards, and adding path lighting. Working from homeowner leads we provide, the intern will call residents to confirm needs and participation, visit properties around Wayne to photograph front walkways (exteriors only) and note hazards, collect signed consent forms, help draft each home’s ~$300 materials plan, and help schedule volunteer improvement days.
The role also includes light outreach — local Facebook and Nextdoor posts and neighborhood flyer distribution — to complete the participant list. Roughly 7–8 flexible hours per week, late July through late August, wrapping before fall semester begins. $500 flat stipend as an independent contractor under a simple written agreement; reference letter provided on successful completion.
Qualifications
* Ability to coordinate schedules, manage multiple homeowner cases, and keep organized records of visits and confirmations
* Strong interpersonal skills — genuine patience and warmth speaking with older adults by phone and at the front door
* Comfort with basic digital tools (email, spreadsheets, messaging, smartphone photos); willingness to learn our simple systems
* Own reliable car, valid license, and insurance for local travel within Wayne; ready to work hybrid (field visits phone/computer work from home)
* Demonstrated interest in community service, nonprofit work, or social impact; prior volunteer or customer service experience is a plus
* Strong attention to detail and dependability — seniors will be expecting you when a visit is scheduled
* High level of professionalism and respect for people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances
