SUMMARY

The goals of the apprenticeship program are to train the apprentice to gain knowledge and skills to become a Facility Maintenance Technician.  The candidate is required to work under the supervision of a Senior Facility Maintenance Technician; must report to duty as scheduled to meet the requirements stated in the Apprenticeship Program Evaluation.

 

The candidate must complete all work assigned by the Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician and/or Supervisor.  The candidate will be evaluated and assessed quarterly to determine progress, proficiency, and meeting the career path required for an Facility Maintenance Technician. Areas of training will include, but are not limited to, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades work. Learns to operate a variety of maintenance and cleaning tools and equipment; and performs related work as required

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

  • Works and assists alongside an assigned Facility Maintenance Technician to learn to perform quality facilities maintenance and repairs. 
  • Apprentice technicians need to communicate with their team and demonstrate safety practices and   knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Apprentice technicians need to understand and comply with company policies and rules, this includes complying with safety policies and procedures, Safe Driving policies, and with the Safeguard policies.
  • Assembles, repairs, maintains, and moves furniture, such as desks, cabinets, tables, chairs, shelves, and related fittings and fixtures.
  • Assists with conducting routine inspections and maintenance of heating, electrical, and air conditioning equipment; replaces filters; identifies and reports more complex maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Participates in inspections of facilities and grounds for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
  • Assists with structural pest control measures.
  • Maintains records and logs of daily activities.
  • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to chemicals and other hazardous materials.  Reports any deviations to working supervisor.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.
  • Completes assignments dispatched though request system.
  • Completes and remains current with all mandatory manufacturing, Safety Compliance, security, and Safeguard training.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Keeps work area clean.
  • Follows policies and procedures to ensure a consistent high level of quality service
  • This position requires consistent travel between PCH and IK Auto Group facilities across Hawai’i Island.

  • Other duties as assigned by the DSD & Facilities Manager, Director of Finance, or President.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  •  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers. common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; has problem-solving skills.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Manufacturer Training
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and cleaning drivers abstract

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic email communications skills

 

WORK HOURS:

  • Regular Facilities Department Operational Hours
  • Travel between IKC and other Company locations may require longer hours.
  • Construction projects and facilities repairs may require longer hours.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with the assistant of safety gears, equipment, or PPE, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with the assistant of safety gears, equipment, or PPE. Rarely lift up to 100 pounds, requiring assistance from PPE, tools and equipment for items over 60 pounds. 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) includes back braces, hand, head, foot, eye, face, and body protection. Goggles/eye protection, gloves, ear plugs, and back brace are provided by the organization and must always be included in their toolbox or workstation. PPE approved clothing/uniform and footwear, closed-toe, steel toes and slip-resistant soles, worn at all times.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, extended period of sitting, walking, working on the computer and telephone.  The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles in the service bay area, occasionally moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the service bay area. Appropriate clothing and closed-toed shoes must be worn at all times.
