The Functional Lead – Dynamics 365 Finance is responsible for designing, configuring, and implementing the financial management capabilities within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance. This role serves as the primary subject-matter expert (SME) for all core finance modules, including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Fixed Assets (FA), Chart of Accounts (CoA), Cash & Bank Management, and Budgeting.
The Functional Lead translates business requirements into optimized, compliant, and scalable D365 Finance configurations that support accurate accounting, streamlined processes, and robust financial reporting. This individual collaborates closely with solution architects, data engineers, developers, and finance stakeholders to deliver a fully functional, auditable, and sustainable financial system.
Requirements:Functional Design & Configuration

Lead the end-to-end design and configuration of D365 Finance modules: GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Cash & Bank, and Budgeting.

Define and implement the Chart of Accounts, financial dimensions, and posting profiles aligned with organizational accounting structures.

Configure workflows for vendor approvals, payment journals, customer collections, and financial period controls.

Establish ledger setups, journal types, and fiscal calendars to support corporate and statutory reporting.

Configure budget control, encumbrance, and project financial management features where applicable.

Validate configuration decisions through conference room pilots (CRPs), prototypes, and end-user walkthroughs.
Requirements & Solution Mapping

Conduct workshops with finance stakeholders to capture and prioritize functional requirements.

Document fit-gap analyses, identifying areas requiring extensions or integrations outside of standard D365 Finance capabilities.

Translate business processes into detailed Functional Design Documents (FDDs) and user stories for development and testing teams.

Collaborate with technical teams to ensure integrations (e.g., with procurement, payroll, CRM, or external reporting systems) align with finance workflows.

Serve as the functional authority in design review sessions, validating that the technical configuration aligns with financial principles and compliance requirements.
Data Migration & Validation

Define financial data migration scope, templates, and mapping between legacy systems and D365 Finance.

Support the migration of master data (vendors, customers, assets, banks) and transactional data (open invoices, balances, journals).

Validate migrated data accuracy through reconciliation reports, ensuring ledger and subledger integrity.

Support trial balance validation, period close, and data conversion testing cycles prior to go-live.
Testing & Deployment Support

Develop and execute test scripts for finance module functionality, integrations, and end-to-end workflows.

Support System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), leading issue resolution and retesting activities.

Collaborate with training teams to develop user materials and quick-reference guides for finance end-users.

Participate in cutover planning and coordinate finance data readiness activities.

Lead functional validation during the first financial period close post-go-live.
Reporting, Controls & Compliance

Partner with Power BI and reporting teams to design financial dashboards, KPIs, and financial statements leveraging D365 Finance data entities.

Ensure the financial setup supports internal controls, audit trails, and compliance with standards such as GAAP, IFRS, or regulatory frameworks.

Configure and validate financial consolidations, intercompany accounting, and multi-currency setups where required.

Support audit reviews and provide documentation of financial process design and system configuration.
Continuous Improvement & Support

Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency improvements, and expanded D365 functionality post go-live.

Provide ongoing SME support for financial process enhancements and user optimization requests.

Maintain functional documentation, configuration logs, and version control for audit and governance.
Qualifications

Experience: 8 years of ERP financial management experience, including at least 3 full-cycle D365 Finance or Dynamics AX implementations in a functional leadership role.

Modules: Deep functional expertise across GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Budgeting, and Cash & Bank Management.

Technical Familiarity: Working knowledge of D365 Data Entities, Data Management Framework (DMF), Power BI, and Excel add-ins for finance data management.

Finance Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial close processes, consolidations, cost allocations, and multi-company or multi-currency environments.

Tools: Proficiency in Azure DevOps, LCS (Lifecycle Services), and Microsoft 365 collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, Excel).

Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant Associate highly preferred.
