Position Summary
Hydraulics International, Inc. (HII) is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Operator to join our manufacturing team in Chatsworth, California. This position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes to produce precision metal components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude, extensive knowledge of CNC machining, and experience using precision measuring instruments. This role requires the ability to safely operate complex machinery, troubleshoot machining issues, and consistently produce high-quality parts within established production requirements.
Key Performance Deliverables
- Set up and operate CNC lathes to manufacture precision metal parts in accordance with blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
- Load, test, adjust, and run CNC part programs.
- Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, inserts, and work holding devices.
- Review blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications in both standard and metric measurements.
- Perform conversions between standard and metric measurements as needed.
- Apply knowledge of machine shop theory, machining procedures, shop mathematics, material machinability, and layout techniques.
- Use machinist tools and precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
- Inspect completed parts to verify dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and compliance with quality requirements.
- Make machine offsets and adjustments to maintain part tolerances and product quality.
- Identify and troubleshoot tooling, programming, equipment, and machining issues.
- Perform routine machine inspections and basic preventive maintenance.
- Maintain accurate production, inspection, and quality documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to quality, productivity, safety, and manufacturing processes.
- Develop strong working relationships with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional team members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and manufacturing policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of CNC machining experience, preferably operating and setting up CNC lathes.
- Certificate in Machine Shop Technology, Machine Tool Technology, or a related machinist program is highly preferred.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications.
- Proficiency in shop mathematics, including decimals, fractions, geometry, and standard-to-metric conversions.
- Experience using machinist tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to make machine offsets, change tooling, and troubleshoot machining issues.
- One to two years of mechanical assembly experience is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to use a calculator and perform calculations required for machining operations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical duties required in a production environment.
- Ability to safely lift and handle materials, tooling, and components as required.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly Pay Range: $20.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience.
