What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Data Engineer position at HYBE AMERICA?
About HYBE America
HYBE America is part of HYBE, a global leader at the intersection of music, entertainment, and technology. We represent some of the world’s most influential artists and continue to expand our creative and cultural impact across the Americas. At HYBE, we believe in the power of music and foster a culture built on Passion, Autonomy, and Trust.
Position Overview
HYBE America is building a centralized data platform from the ground up. We are investing in a modern cloud data stack to create a single source of truth across all US operations, including record labels, marketing, artist management, distribution, and merchandise. This infrastructure underpins everything from artist development insights to executive reporting.
We are looking for a Data Engineer with at least 5 years of experience, based in the US or Mexico, to be the founding member of the Engineering vertical within our Business Intelligence team. This position will own the ongoing maintenance and evolution of HYBE’s data platform. You will work alongside our Americas-based BI team as you take on ownership of the stack as it moves into steady-state operations. This is a hands-on role with real ownership and long-term platform responsibility. You will be the person who keeps our pipes running, ingests new data sources as the business grows, and ensures data quality across the platform.
This is a full-time, hybrid role based in our Santa Monica or New York office, with in-person collaboration 3 days per week and remote work 2 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Pipeline operations: Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot data pipelines across key data sources, source data third-party connectors, and transformation layers. Ensure scheduled runs complete on time and resolve failures independently.
- New source ingestion: Scope, configure, and deploy new data sources as business needs expand. This includes working with business stakeholders to understand business use cases, define data source schemas, delivery mechanisms, and define ingestion requirements.
- dbt model development: Build and maintain staging, intermediate, and mart-level dbt models. Enforce testing, documentation, and established naming conventions.
- Snowflake administration: Manage warehouse sizing, access controls, cost monitoring, and performance optimization. Ensure dev/prod environments remain clean and well-governed.
- Data quality: Implement and maintain data quality checks, alerting, and observability to end users. Proactively identify and resolve data anomalies before they reach downstream consumers.
- Collaboration with BI team: Partner with the Head of BI and BI team leads to align engineering roadmap with reporting and analytics needs.
Qualifications
- 5 years of professional data engineering experience, with meaningful time spent as the primary or sole engineer responsible for a production data platform.
- Strong hands-on experience with enterprise-level cloud data warehouse platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, or BigQuery.
- Production experience with dbt (dbt Cloud or dbt Core) — not just familiarity, but building and maintaining models in a team environment with version control and CI/CD.
- Experience with ELT/ingestion tools like Fivetran, Matillion, Airbyte, or similar.
- Advanced SQL. This is the primary working language of the role.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, custom connectors, and pipeline orchestration.
- Comfortable working with Git-based workflows (branching, PRs, code review).
- Strong written and verbal communication in English. You will participate in standups, sprint planning, and async communication with a US-based team.
It’s a bonus if you have
- Experience in media, entertainment, or music industry data (streaming consumption data, social media metrics, royalty/revenue data).
- Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
- Experience with data observability platforms.
- Exposure to BI tools (Tableau, Sigma, Looker) and understanding of how data models serve downstream reporting.
- Experience working with cross-platform data pipelines (e.g., BigQuery to Snowflake).
- Prior experience in a nearshore or remote-first role supporting a US-based team.
Technologies/Systems/Software we use
- Google Cloud & BigQuery
- dbt
- GitLab
