hXpath is partnering with a well-established international freight forwarder and customs broker to identify an experienced Customs Brokerage Manager to lead their San Francisco (SFO) operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing brokerage functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving operational efficiency and team performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage day-to-day customs brokerage operations, ensuring timely and compliant clearance of shipments
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of entry writers and brokerage staff
- Maintain full compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, including CBP requirements and PGA filings
- Act as the primary point of contact for Customs-related escalations, audits, and inquiries
- Oversee entry processing, classification, valuation, and duty optimization strategies
- Collaborate with internal departments (air/ocean operations, sales) to ensure seamless end-to-end service delivery
- Monitor KPIs, productivity metrics, and service levels to drive continuous improvement
- Support client relationships by providing expertise on trade compliance, tariffs, and regulatory changes
- Ensure accurate billing, cost controls, and contribution to overall branch profitability
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in customs brokerage, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity
- Active U.S. Customs Broker License required
- Strong knowledge of HTS classification, valuation, and import compliance regulations
- Experience with Cargowise or similar brokerage systems preferred
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive operational excellence
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with clients and government agencies
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
