Laboratory Assistant

Position Summary:

Assists laboratory technicians by processing samples, perform moderate/ waived laboratory testing along with results data entry.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Assists laboratory technicians in all areas of the laboratory
• Performs moderate complexity and waived laboratory testing
• Assists with results/data entry
• Assists with maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Check dumb waiter throughout the day for specimens, process specimens as needed.
• Assist courier when the courier is away from the laboratory
• Assists with phlebotomy and front desk operations
• Help out Director, supervisors and secretaries with special projects when needed and if time permits.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Maintain professional and friendly atmosphere for patients and coworkers.
• Abide by all clinic and laboratory safety policies.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Properly follows procedures to confirm patient identity.
• Properly labels all specimens collected.
• Abide by Clinic policies and guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Experience preferred but will train acceptable candidates.
• Education: Equivalent to a high school education.
• Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion.
• Other Skills: Attention to detail and Basic computer skills.

• Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50lbs.
• Requires extended amounts of walking.
