Asphalt Roller Operator
Position Overview
The Asphalt Roller Operator is responsible for safely operating compaction equipment to ensure proper density, smoothness, and finish of asphalt surfaces. This role plays a critical part in achieving quality paving results on commercial, municipal, and roadway projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate asphalt rollers to compact asphalt to required specifications
- Work closely with paving crew, screed operators, and foreman to ensure proper rolling patterns and timing
- Monitor mat temperature and adjust rolling techniques accordingly
- Perform pre-trip inspections for equipment
- Identify and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns immediately
- Maintain consistent speed, overlap, and coverage for uniform compaction
- Follow project specifications, safety regulations, and company standards
- Assist with general labor tasks when needed
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating asphalt rollers
- Understanding of asphalt compaction methods and rolling patterns
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment
- Must be able to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, dust)
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally
- Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction sites
- Exposure to noise, vibration, heavy equipment, and traffic
- Monday-Saturday work schedule required
