What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Engineer II position at Husqvarna Group?
This role blends project leadership with product design. You will frequently act as project manager, owning schedule, scope, cost, risk, and cross-functional communication, while also performing mechanical part design and occasional electrical wire‑harness integration. You’ll drive concepts through launch using our Product Creation Process (PCP) and partner closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and suppliers to deliver projects on time, on cost, and on spec.

- Lead multi‑functional design reviews; ensure safety and compliance requirements are addressed per PCP.
- Coordinate pilot builds and tracking meetings; publish status and decision logs; escalate risks with mitigation plans.
- Author/drive change control (ECR/ECO); partner with suppliers reviewing PPAPs and ensuring production readiness.
- Lead cost‑reduction and product‑improvement initiatives; measure outcomes and close out actions.
- Create and release 3D CAD models and detailed drawings; perform tolerance stack‑ups; ensure DFM/DFA and serviceability.
- Conduct or guide basic calculations (strength, loads, performance) and collaborate on FEA/DFMEA/DVP&R.
- Support production and field issues; manage deviations and corrective actions.
- Design or update 2D/3D harness layouts and routing within mechanical envelopes; specify connectors, terminals, wire gauge, shielding, strain relief, labeling, and serviceability.
- Review supplier deviation requests from current designs and determine if changes are acceptable through testing or engineering documentation.
- Build concept validation prototypes by modifying or creating prototype wire harnesses.
- Ensure projects comply with applicable product engineering and safety standards.
- Maintain strong communication with Purchasing, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Customer Service, and external suppliers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering (or related).
- 2–10 years relevant engineering experience (Design Engineer I/II or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience in product design.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and detailed drawings; CATIA V5 preferred.
- Familiarity with product development deliverables, change control (ECR/ECO), and supplier collaboration on PPAP.
- Project leadership and communication skills; comfortable driving cross‑functional outcomes.
- Hands-on prototyping and testing experience; ability to analyze test data and iterate quickly.
