Huntington County’s Emergency Management Department has an opening for a Deputy Director
The Deputy Director assists with developing and maintaining the County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, coordinating emergency operations during disasters and hazardous materials incidents, preparing and administering state and federal grants, maintaining emergency response equipment and communication systems, coordinating volunteer recruitment and training, and conducting emergency preparedness exercises and public education programs. The position also creates GIS maps for emergency planning, maintains department records, attends local and regional meetings, and serves as the department's representative during emergency incidents as needed.
Successful candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid Indiana driver's license, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to remain calm while making sound decisions in high-pressure situations. Applicants must be able to obtain FEMA's Professional Development Series certification within one year of employment and Indiana Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) certification within four years. Experience in emergency management, public safety, incident response, GIS, grant administration, or related fields is preferred but not required.
This position is based on a Monday through Friday schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; however, the Deputy Director serves on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and must be available to respond to emergencies, severe weather events, and disasters. Pay rate is up to $25.62 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
