The Mechanical Engineer will support manufacturing and product development activities for rotating electrical machinery, primarily electrical generators/alternators and associated voltage regulators. This role involves design, testing, troubleshooting, and ensuring production readiness of airborne electromechanical systems. Candidates should possess strong mechanical design skills along with a foundational understanding of electrical and electromagnetic principles. Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to manufacturing operations and resolve product-related issues
- Manage product life-cycle activities, including service investigations and design improvements
- Design, develop, and launch new electromechanical products in compliance with customer and regulatory requirements
- Support FAA certification efforts, including DO-160 testing
- Gain deep familiarity with the alternator product family
- Develop a thorough understanding of alternator design and operational theory
- Understand installation environments and service applications
- Learn engineering SOPs and achieve competency to authorize engineering changes
- Create 3D component and assembly models/drawings (castings, machined parts, stampings, injection moldings)
- Perform FEA analyses (thermal, stress, modal)
- Assemble prototypes for lab and flight testing
- Troubleshoot electromechanical systems to component level
- Review/disposition non-conforming materials
- Write technical test plans, reports, analyses, and service documentation
- Operate lab test equipment and specify test/production support equipment
- Collaborate with customers to resolve field issues
Qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering required (Electrical or Aerospace considered)
- Minimum 3 years of related experience
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling and exposure to FEA tools
- Technical report writing
- Troubleshooting mechanical/electromechanical systems
- Proficiency with MS Office and engineering graphics software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred:
- FEA experience (static stress, modal analysis)
- Familiarity with data acquisition/control systems
- Experience with aviation products and FAA regulations
- Knowledge of vehicle electrical system components
Salary : $85,000 - $125,000
