Electrical Controls Engineer Job Summary
Electrical Controls Engineer responsible for providing electrical and controls engineering support to maintain mill production and troubleshoot equipment. The role involves programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs, specifying electrical equipment, and supporting maintenance with controls and equipment modifications. This position also leads electrical and controls support for capital projects while coordinating with manufacturing, process engineering, operations, maintenance, and contractors. Allen-Bradley programming experience and familiarity with AutoCAD.
Electrical Controls Responsibilities
- Engineering support for mill electrical/controls needs in order to maintain production
- Troubleshoot, edit, and program PLC’s (Allen-Bradley PLC-5, SLC-500, and ControlLogix) and HMI’s (Allen-Bradley RSView32 and FTView)
- Specify electrical equipment including, but not limited to, motors, starters, VFDs, cable, conduit, various instrumentation, and power distribution equipment
- Work with maintenance E/I resources on troubleshooting and equipment or controls modifications
- Lead and offer electrical and controls support for capital projects
- Coordinate with Manufacturing and Process Engineers, as well as area operations and maintenance
- Define scopes of work with contractors and clearly communicate scheduling coordination efforts
- Create and update drawings in AutoCAD.
Electrical Controls Engineer Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 4 years of experience as an Electrical/Controls Engineer or related preferred
- Programming experience (Allen-Bradley preferred)
- Electrical troubleshooting experience
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Familiar with AutoCAD.
