A Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing environmental, health, and safety programs while supporting continuous improvement (CI) initiatives across the organization. This position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations, minimizing environmental impact, and identifying opportunities to improve safety, productivity, and quality. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who can collaborate effectively across departments, promote a strong culture of safety, and drive meaningful improvements within a manufacturing environment.

EHS Specialist Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
• Provide safety training and educational programs to employees to promote and maintain a strong culture of safety.
• Maintain current knowledge of applicable industry standards, regulations, requirements, and EHS best practices.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop risk assessments, safe work practices, and emergency response plans.
• Monitor and manage environmental impact while ensuring adherence to company sustainability and waste-reduction goals.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies as needed to ensure compliance and address potential environmental, health, and safety issues.
• Identify opportunities for process safety improvements across production, operations, and quality functions.
• Partner with department managers and cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement projects and monitor their effectiveness.
• Identify opportunities to enhance safety, productivity, quality, and operational processes through continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop and maintain metrics to measure progress on safety improvement initiatives.
• Regularly report on EHS and continuous improvement outcomes, trends, and areas requiring additional focus.
• Recommend and implement improvements to EHS processes, programs, and practices.
  
  

EHS Specialist Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred; additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 3–5 years of EHS experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Certification in Environmental Health & Safety, such as CSP, CHMM, or OSHA certification, preferred.
• Knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
• Ability to interpret and effectively apply environmental, health, and safety regulations, requirements, and guidelines.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, department managers, and operations personnel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience utilizing EHS or continuous improvement software tools.
• Bilingual Spanish-speaking skills preferred, but not required.
