The Clinical Dietician- Oncology will contribute to the delivery of quality patient care by providing nutrition services (including assessment, modified diet formulation, and nutrition counseling/consultation) for all age groups cared for at the cancer center. They will provide evidence-based nutrition care to patients across the cancer continuum, including prevention, active treatment, survivorship, palliative care, and end-of-life care.


Clinical Dietician- Oncology Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments for oncology patients across the continuum of care.
  • Develop individualized nutrition care plans based on diagnosis, treatment, symptoms, and goals.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy for patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, surgery, radiation therapy, and other therapies as appropriate.
  • Assess and manage malnutrition, cachexia, weight loss, dysphagia, mucositosis, xerostomia, nausea, altered bowel patterns, and other treatment related changes in dietary habits.
  • Counsel patients and caregivers on nutrition before during, and after treatment.
  • Provide nutrition education focused on symptom management, hydration food safety, oral nutrition, supplements, and survivorship.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning, including but not an inclusive list: tumor board, breast conference, supportive care conferences.
  • Collaborate with care team on providing comprehensive patient care plans.
  • Screen patients for nutrition risks and provide timely interventions.
  • Recommend and coordinate provision of enteral nutrition and parenteral nutrition as appropriate.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify nutrition interventions based on treatment response and clinical status.
  • Document assessments and interventions along with outcomes accurately within the medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, accreditations, and regulatory initiatives inclusive of accreditation standards on nutrition.
  • Serve as resource for cancer center staff through education and consultation.


Clinical Dietician- Oncology Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, or related field required, unless registered prior to January 1, 2024.
  • Currently registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association), as a Registered Dietitian.
  • Currently licensed by the State of Georgia as a Licensed Dietitian.
  • Must obtain Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) within three years of employment.
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical oncology nutrition experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of oncology disease processes, cancer treatment modalities, nutrition support, symptom management, survivorship, and palliative care.

Salary : $25 - $31
