Program Quality and Compliance Position

Reports To

Chief Executive Officer

Position Summary

The Program Quality and Compliance Position is responsible for ensuring that prepared meals and food products meet organizational, partner, quality, and food-safety requirements.

This position oversees food receiving, storage, inventory, meal preparation, staff coordination, documentation, quality checks, and quality assurance in both receiving and distribution.

The position works closely with the Operations Manager and organizational leadership to maintain consistent quality, accurate records, safe food-handling practices, and reliable program delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect food, ingredients, packaging, and supplies upon receipt.
  • Confirm product condition, quantity, temperature, packaging integrity, and delivery accuracy.
  • Evaluate recovered food based on condition, food-safety requirements, and organizational acceptance standards.
  • Monitor food storage, labeling, dating, rotation, and inventory.
  • Maintain receiving, temperature, production, sanitation, inventory, and waste records.
  • Ensure compliance with food-safety, sanitation, allergen-control, and temperature-control procedures.
  • Train, supervise, and provide direction to food-service staff.
  • Monitor staff performance and compliance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate production completion, meal counts, and delivery readiness with the Operations Manager.
  • Place food on hold when safety or quality cannot be verified.
  • Support health inspections, audits, partner reviews, and required program reporting.
  • Assist with purchasing, inventory planning, and waste reduction.
  • Maintain organized food-storage and preparation areas.
  • Help update food-safety procedures, production checklists, and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in professional food service, culinary operations, catering, institutional kitchens, or high-volume meal production.
  • Previous experience in purchasing and receiving is preferred.
  • Experience supervising, training, and providing direction to staff.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, cooking, cooling, temperature control, receiving, storage, inventory, and food-rotation practices.
  • Experience assessing recovered or donated food for quality and safe use is preferred.
  • Experience maintaining food-production, quality-control, and compliance records.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to identify problems, investigate incidents, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production and delivery deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, management, vendors, donors, and community partners.
  • Basic proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and electronic recordkeeping.
  • Experience in nonprofit food programs, community meal services, healthcare, school food service, senior nutrition, or similar environments is preferred.

Certifications

  • Current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification, or another accredited Food Protection Manager certification recognized by the applicable local health authority, is required.
  • Certification must remain current throughout employment.
  • A current California Food Handler Card may also be required, as applicable.
  • Additional food-safety, equipment, or workplace-safety certifications may be required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and move food products, supplies, packaging, and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated, freezer, warehouse, and food-preparation environments.
  • Ability to work around commercial food-service equipment, cleaning products, and food allergens.
  • Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays when program operations require.

Pay: $26.80 - $33.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
