Position Summary
The Sommelier is responsible for supporting and advancing the restaurant’s wine program through exceptional hospitality, organization, and wine knowledge. While formal certifications are not required, this role demands a strong understanding of both Old and New World wine regions, producer familiarity, and vintage awareness.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a genuine passion for wine, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to communicate knowledge clearly and thoughtfully with both guests and staff. This position requires a collaborative, approachable, and service-oriented mindset, with a focus on enhancing the overall guest experience and contributing to a dynamic and well-organized beverage program.

Core Responsibilities
- Recommending wine pairings to guests based on menu selections and preferences
- Providing knowledgeable, approachable wine service and education to guests
- Ensuring proper wine handling, storage temperatures, and service techniques
- Staying informed on wine regions, vintages, producers, and industry trends
- Supporting guest satisfaction through hospitality-focused service and problem resolution
Service & Guest Experience
- Ensure all guest-facing areas meet the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and compliance with health regulations
- Approach guest interactions with warmth, confidence, and approachability
- Enhance the dining experience through knowledgeable and personalized pairings
- Educate guests and staff in a clear, engaging, and non-intimidating manner
- Maintain strong awareness of service pacing and coordinate beverage timing with the floor team
- Create a welcoming, comfortable, and memorable dining experience
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tables, stations, and dining areas
- Demonstrate teamwork and support fellow staff during service
- Uphold all service standards, reservation notes, and allergy protocols
Qualifications:
- 3 years experience in fine dining, upscale hospitality, or beverage-focused restaurant environments
- Strong foundational knowledge of wine regions, varietals, producers, vintages, and wine styles
- Experience with inventory management, ordering, and cellar organization preferred
- Ability to multitask and maintain composure during busy service periods
- Passion for hospitality, food, wine, and continued learning
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8 hours), and to crouch, bend, and lift or move 25 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Salary: $11.35 per hour with tip credit
