Description

Humboldt Senior Resource Center is looking for a full-time Facility Maintenance Technician. The schedule for this position is 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.


JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Facility Operations Manager, the Facility Maintenance Technician supports the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of HSRC facilities and grounds, including a commercial kitchen and healthcare sites. This position performs a wide range of maintenance, repair, custodial, and groundskeeping tasks to ensure buildings, systems, and equipment remain in good working order. The Technician conducts routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems; maintains safety and security standards; and assists with custodial and landscaping duties as needed. This position also coordinates with external vendors, documents maintenance activities, responds promptly to work orders, and ensures compliance with OSHA, ADA, fire safety, and other regulatory requirements. The Facility Maintenance Technician plays a key role in creating a safe, clean, and functional environment for staff, participants, and visitors across all HSRC locations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Completes day-to-day inspection, maintenance, and repair of non-medical equipment, mechanical systems, and operating systems to identify and resolve issues. Escalates issues that require additional attention.
  2. Utilizes work order software to check for and complete maintenance requests. Responds promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations. Documents repair and maintenance occurrences within work order system and works with staff in all programs to coordinate maintenance and repair work.
  3. Conducts preventative maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, mechanical systems, and other equipment.  Monitors and tests safety systems such as, but not limited to, alarms, emergency lighting, and fire extinguishers, providing maintenance and repair as needed.
  4. Serves as building security representative. Addresses security issues such as unauthorized persons and other security concerns. Investigates and addresses vandalism, abandoned cars, graffiti, trespassers, and works with local law enforcement as necessary. Turns on building security systems and inspects for correct operations.
  5. Maintains on-site storage areas and rented storage space in an organized manner.
  6. Coordinates and oversees work performed by external vendors to ensure the proper and efficient operation and repair of all agency buildings and equipment.
  7. Ensures facilities are compliant with OSHA, ADA, fire safety, and other regulatory standards; corrects safety and fire hazards and reports findings and results to the Facility Operations Manager.
  8. Maintains all required equipment and building inspection reports, operational manuals, inventory of products, and Safety Data Sheets.
  9. Assists with procurement of supplies and parts; maintains inventory of maintenance tools and equipment.
  10. Moves and assembles office furniture and equipment as needed. Sets up and break down furniture and equipment for events, activities, and meetings.
  11.  Works safely and efficiently, utilizing safe equipment, techniques, and products.
  12. Maintains cleanliness of the grounds. Removes debris, garbage, and green waste from the grounds and adjacent areas (e.g., parking lot, sidewalk, etc.). Conducts regular inspection of the grounds, including trash receptacles, windows, drains, etc. Maintains clean and safe walkways, entrances, and outdoor areas.
  13. Performs regular and directed grounds and landscape maintenance by trimming and edging around trees, shrubs, ground cover, sidewalks, and buildings. Performs weeding, thinning, and cleaning of landscaped areas manually and/or with applicable tools.
  14. Monitors waste disposal, recycling, and biohazard waste protocols in coordination with clinical staff.
  15. Provides on-call support for emergencies, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  16. Travels often to provide support for various HSRC sites as needed.
  17. Performs tasks of Custodian I & II as needed.

Qualifications


EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  2. Two (2) years of experience in facilities or building maintenance and custodial work/grounds keeping preferred.
  3. Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or general carpentry required.
  4. Experience working in medical and/or commercial food service settings preferred.
  5. Experience with maintaining floors (stripping, waxing, buffing, carpet cleaning) preferred.

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

  1. Valid California Driver’s License, and personal auto liability insurance required. Must have a personal vehicle in good driving/operating condition, insured for State minimum liability requirements, and that can be used for the applicable job functions noted above.
  2. OSHA Safety & Health Fundamentals Certificate or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

PRE-SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:


  1. This position requires the successful completion of a background check.
  2. Pre-employment physical and PPD skin test.
  3. A current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) is required to determine eligibility for driving on behalf of the organization.
  4. COVID-19 and Influenza (flu) vaccinations preferred.

  5. Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the various building maintenance trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, heating and ventilating, air conditioning, and sprinkler installations.
  6. Knowledge of custodial and cleaning practices, materials, standards, and schedules applicable to the health care industry.
  7. Knowledge of personal protection equipment.
  8. Knowledge and understanding of the safe use, storage, disposal and transport of cleaning chemicals. Ability to understand the Globally Harmonized Systems of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) as appropriate.
  9. Ability to recognize and accommodate changing priorities as communicated by the Facility Operations Manager and to meet short- and long-term deadlines/goals.
  10. Applies good judgement, resourcefulness, and flexibility to resolve issues and adapt to changing circumstances.
  11. Strong verbal and written communication abilities in English; able to convey information clearly and professionally to staff and vendors,
  12. Builds positive relationships with diverse populations, including staff and vendors.
  13. Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team demonstrating sound listening skills to receive directions and feedback; maintains a cooperative and supportive attitude.
  14. Remains calm and effective when priorities shift, deadlines change, and unexpected issues arise.
  15. Maintains confidentiality, reliability, and ethical standards; consistently demonstrates punctuality, attendance, and responsibility in work performance.
  16. Proficient in using computers and web-based applications, including timekeeping systems, online training platforms, facility management software, and email communication tools.
  17. Possess strong recordkeeping skills and ability to maintain accurate files and records.
  18. Ability to understand and incorporate detailed requirements into action plans and implement them.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements of this position involve frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching in the course of performing building, equipment, and grounds maintenance. The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier items with assistance. Duties may require working in confined spaces, on ladders, or at heights, as well as exposure to varying indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather, noise, and potential hazards related to maintenance work. The position requires sufficient vision, including color perception, to perform inspections, identify safety concerns, and read equipment displays or labels, as well as manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment. The employee must also be able to drive between multiple facilities to provide on-site support.
