Primary Function and Relationship to Total Organization:
The Certified Nurse Aide Training Program prepares individuals to become certified nursing assistants (CNAs) through a comprehensive education and clinical training program. Trainees will learn to provide basic nursing care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff while gaining hands-on experience in a long-term care setting.
The course requires the student to complete a 76 hour course with 40 hours of classroom, 16 lab hours, perform 30 hours in a clinical setting, and successfully demonstrate patient/resident care skills. Satisfactory completion of the course provides eligibility to take the written examination for State certification as a certified nursing assistant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in classroom instruction covering essential nurse aide topics including, but not limited to infection control, patient rights, safety procedures, and basic patient care techniques.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, under direct supervision.
- Learn how to measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents.
- Observe and report any changes in residents’ physical or mental status to licensed staff.
- Follow all hospital policies, safety regulations, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of resident care areas and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- No prior healthcare experience necessary; interest in a healthcare career is essential.
- Ability to attend and complete the full duration of the training program.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Compassionate, dependable, and team-oriented.
Subject of General Concern:
- Each student is expected to conduct him/her self in a manner expected of all members of the healthcare team in respect to standards of ethics, morals and integrity. Student expectations include active participation and a positive attitude. Practices that indicate a lack of commitment to quality work or classroom/clinical interaction will impact a student’s grade
Training Details:
- Paid training program provided by the hospital for lab (16 hours) and clinical time (30 hours) for students while participating in the training program.
- Students must complete at least 40 hours of the on-line learning,16 lab hours and all 30 hours of the clinical to successfully complete the course. If a student is absent from any part of the clinical, the student would need to repeat the entire class to fulfill course requirement. Students will need to pay the tuition to retake the class.
- Student must have access or provide a personal computer/laptop, internet and personal email.
- Upon successful completion of training and competency evaluation, candidates will be eligible to take the state certification exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- Employment as a CNA may be offered upon certification and based on performance and staffing needs.
