Primary Function and Relationship to Total Organization:

The Certified Nurse Aide Training Program prepares individuals to become certified nursing assistants (CNAs) through a comprehensive education and clinical training program. Trainees will learn to provide basic nursing care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff while gaining hands-on experience in a long-term care setting.

The course requires the student to complete a 76 hour course with 40 hours of classroom, 16 lab hours, perform 30 hours in a clinical setting, and successfully demonstrate patient/resident care skills. Satisfactory completion of the course provides eligibility to take the written examination for State certification as a certified nursing assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in classroom instruction covering essential nurse aide topics including, but not limited to infection control, patient rights, safety procedures, and basic patient care techniques.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, under direct supervision.
  • Learn how to measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to residents.
  • Observe and report any changes in residents’ physical or mental status to licensed staff.
  • Follow all hospital policies, safety regulations, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of resident care areas and equipment.

  • Ability to attend and complete the full duration of the training program.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Compassionate, dependable, and team-oriented.

Subject of General Concern:

  • Each student is expected to conduct him/her self in a manner expected of all members of the healthcare team in respect to standards of ethics, morals and integrity. Student expectations include active participation and a positive attitude. Practices that indicate a lack of commitment to quality work or classroom/clinical interaction will impact a student’s grade
