About the Role
As our Human Resources Manager, you will serve as the strategic and operational leader for all human resources and people operations. You will partner closely with the executive team to develop the talent, systems, and culture required to support rapid, compliant growth in a highly regulated environment. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for a builder who thrives in startup environments and enjoys operating at both strategic and tactical levels. The ideal candidate brings strong, well-rounded HR expertise, a high level of energy, and a proactive, ownership-driven approach to building solutions before problems arise. Key Responsibilities
- People strategy: Design org structure, workforce plans, and talent roadmap aligned to product, clinical, and commercial milestones.
- Talent acquisition: Own end-to-end recruiting for engineers, quality/reg, clinical, field/sales, and ops; build employer brand; manage agencies.
- Onboarding/enablement: Create compliant onboarding, role curricula, and manager toolkits; link to QMS and safety training.
- Performance and Culture: Implement goal setting/OKRs, feedback cycles, career frameworks, and leadership development; actively embed our core values: Better Together, Excellence, Innovation, Integrity, and Impact into everyday behaviors, decisions, and engagement.
- Compensation & benefits: Build market-based cash/equity bands; sales incentive plans; multistate/global benefits; partner on equity admin.
- HR operations: Select and run HRIS/ATS; payroll and timekeeping (multistate); policies/handbook; visas/immigration; contractor management.
- Operational Leadership and Ownership: Willingly steps into day-to-day operational and administrative needs when required, from supporting office setup and vendor coordination to ensuring basic workplace readiness (supplies, logistics, and environment).
- Compliance: Ensure HR compliance with FDA/ISO 13485 training records, EHS, HIPAA-adjacent privacy in HR data, leave laws, wage/hour, and antiharassment.
- Employee relations: Coach managers, resolve issues, investigations, and change management during rapid scale.
- Diversity, equity & inclusion: Set goals and programs; fair hiring and pay practices.
- Workplace & Safety: Partner with EHS/Facilities on lab/manufacturing and field safety requirements.
- Cross functional partnership: Work with QA/RA, Clinical, Finance, and Legal on audits, headcount, budgets, and board reporting.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience & Qualifications
- 7–12 years HR experience, including 3 years leading HR in a high growth startup or small/mid MedTech/biotech.
- Demonstrated scale-up from ~15-20 to 50-70 employees, including engaging 1099 field sales (200 ).
- Strong recruiter/operator hybrid; hands-on with HRIS/ATS and analytics.
- Knowledge of FDA/ISO 13485 training documentation expectations; familiarity with MDR/IVDR is a plus.
- Multi-state US employment law expertise; global exposure (EU/Australia) preferred.
- Experience designing sales comp plans and equity/cash bands.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or SHRMCP/SHRMSCP/PHR/SPHR preferred.
