Federal Policy Fellow, Federal Affairs

The general hourly range for this position is $21.30- 29.85. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education. Humane World Action Fund, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Federal Policy Fellow, Federal Affairs.  In this position you will assist the Federal Affairs team by providing support on federal legislative and regulatory efforts, digital communications and administrative tasks. Researches and drafts factsheets and briefing documents, assists with digital communications needs, complies with scheduling and accounting requests, helps with grassroots efforts, and supports the overall management of the departmentResponsibilities:• Assists with special events including logistical and in-person support for the Taking Action for Animals (TAFA)/Lobby Day, the annual Humane Awards reception., and other events like press conferences and briefings; • Helps prepare and maintain legislative and regulatory documents including priority factsheets, cosponsor lists, endorsement lists, agency briefing documents, and grassroots alerts.  Drafts LTEs. Monitors the Congressional Record and Federal Register daily;• Helps provide research needed to support legislative, regulatory, and grassroots actions;• Assists with all accounting requests and general administrative tasks including scheduling;• Helps monitor the introduction of bills, notice of hearings and votes, notices for agency rules, and policies and provides the information to the appropriate staff in Action Fund, APL, and programs/campaigns;• Help with all aspects of the annual Humane Scorecard including regularly maintaining cosponsor and leadership information;• Assists the digital communications director with social media management; this includes but is not limited to monitoring comments on organizational Facebook and X channels and responding where necessary, drafting and posting content to channels, providing guidance for use of social media channels during key legislative or regulatory initiatives and monitoring X for possible content to retweet;• Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.  Qualifications and Requirements:• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience required. JD preferred;• Research and writing experience required;• General understanding of federal regulatory and legislative process;• General understanding of using social media channels, experience in usingsocial media for an organization preferred;• Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);• Strong written and verbal communication skills;• Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;• Strong interpersonal skills are necessary;• Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.  This position is based in the DC Metro Area Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, marital or parental status or protected veteran status.
