JOB DESCRIPTION
The Federal Health Policy (FHP) Strategies - a full-service, bipartisan governmental affairs consulting firm serving a wide range of clients in the health care sector - is seeking a dynamic, engaged, self-starter in our Washington, D.C. office. This is a high impact position requiring frequent contact with clients, congressional and executive branch staff, and others in the health policy arena. This individual will support and advance the legislative advocacy and regulatory priorities of our health care clients.
Essential Duties
• Attending congressional hearings, federal agency meetings and other health-related events and drafting summary reports;
• Tracking and analyzing legislative and regulatory activity;
• Researching and drafting a weekly health policy review document summarizing the past week’s legislative and regulatory updates relevant to clients;
• Preparing advocacy materials;
• Scheduling, coordinating, and staffing lobbying activity (e.g., congressional appointments, lobby days); and
• Interacting directly with clients.
Skills Needed to Be Successful
• An interest in health policy and the intellectual curiosity to develop subject matter expertise;
• Strong writing skills with a thorough command of the English language, including excellent spelling,
grammar, punctuation, and self-editing;
• Ability to accurately and quickly draft and edit written materials with keen attention to detail;
• Flexibility to manage multiple work assignments and prioritize projects to complete critical deliverables in a timely manner;
• Familiarity with the federal regulatory and legislative processes, and current knowledge of key
administrative and congressional issues;
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary for client engagement and network development in health policy; and
• Ability to work successfully both independently and in a team environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher and experience working in federal health policy, preferably in a Congressional office, federal health care agency, or advocacy firm.
