The Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO) is searching for a Strategic Giving Officer who will be responsible for developing Major and Planned Giving donors to advance our organization's long-term philanthropic growth. This role manages a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects, oversees key third-party vendor relationships supporting strategic outreach initiatives, and provides expert consultation to donors with complex charitable planning needs. The Strategic Giving Officer plays a critical role in strengthening HSMO's Legacy Society and expanding blended and estate-based giving.

We are considering candidates with non-profit planned giving experience OR someone without that experience if they have a wealth management background. We are searching for someone who wants to work full-time, but we will consider part-time applicants. This role can be structured as a hybrid remote position.

What you'll do:

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of major and planned gift donors and prospects through intentional identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Secure major outright gifts, blended gifts, and planned gifts including bequests, beneficiary designations, trusts, life income gifts, and other estate commitments.
  • Conduct personalized donor visits and virtual meetings to deepen relationships and align donor passions with organizational priorities.
  • Develop individualized giving proposals and gift illustrations in collaboration with donors and their professional advisors.
  • Design and implement meaningful stewardship strategies including events, recognition, reporting, and personalized communications for our Legacy Society donors (approximately 400 members).
  • Manage third-party vendors responsible for donor mailings and surveys.
  • Manage our annual telemarketing program designed to generate leads.
  • Monitor lead generation, prospect engagement, and conversion metrics generated by third party efforts.
  • Serve as a resource to donors exploring complex gift vehicles including charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities, beneficiary designations, IRA gifts, real estate, closely held stock, and other non-cash assets.
  • Collaborate with financial advisors, attorneys, and estate planners to facilitate donor intent.
  • Maintain knowledge of current tax laws and charitable planning strategies.

Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in planned giving, wealth advising, or estate management.
  • Proven success in relationship management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in donor database systems is a plus (preferably Raiser's Edge NXT) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Passion for animal welfare and alignment with the Humane Society of Missouri's mission.

Our benefits include:

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and short-term insurance
  • Long-term disability (100% employer paid)
  • Retirement Savings Plan
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick and holiday pay
  • 40% off veterinary services at our clinics
