This is a hybrid position

This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree, and experience equivalent to three years of full-time professional work in one or a combination of the following: social services and/or human services case management, gerontology, investigations regarding vulnerable persons, psychology, or sociology and two years of experience in an APS supervisory classification.

Substitution of Specialized Experience: Five years of supervisory experience in one or a combination of the fields listed above may be substituted for the two years of specialized supervisory experience on a 2.5:1 ratio.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class are required to:

  • Complete a criminal background history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
  • Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority;
  • Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check;
  • Submit to a review of and not be listed on the Indicated Persons Registry of the Department of Children's Services, Department of Health's vulnerable persons' registry, or the state's sex offender registry;
  • Not have an excludable offense as defined by Tenn. Code Ann. § 71-2-403 and Tenn. Rules & Regs. Ch. 1240-07-10-09.
  • Upon appointment, successfully complete a prescribed course of training offered by the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
  • Be available to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Overview

This classification performs Adult Protective Services (APS) supervisory work within a specified geographical area. This class differs from that of an APS Team Coordinator in that the latter supervises investigative staff. This classification differs from that of an DHS Program Director in that the latter supervises employees in this classification and performs work of greater scope and complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Suggests and implements recommendations to improve policies and procedures based upon observations and staff feedback.
  • Reviews data to identify, develop, and implement strategies to improve quality of service, achieve program goals, and ensure efficiency. Analyzes caseload trends and suggests adjustments as needed.
  • Monitors staff performance to ensure policy and procedure requirements are being met and determines training needs.
  • Confers with staff regarding complex cases and makes recommendations on appropriate action needed. Participates in legal team meetings in preparation for legal interventions that are guided by the Office of General Counsel (OGC).
  • Provides day-to-day oversight of team including staffing, coaching, performance management, professional development, and identification of training opportunities for staff. May assist investigative staff or supervisors in conducting investigations or reviewing findings.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal/external partners to foster collaboration to meet the needs of clients, staff, and the community. Researches complaints and determines appropriate resolution.
  • Explains and interprets program requirements to internal/external partners to ensure needs are met effectively. Plans and conducts group meetings or trainings with staff or partners to disseminate information on specific topics.
