The Sr. Product Design Specialist is responsible for leading complex design initiatives from concept to deployment. This role is ideal for an experienced designer who thrives in a hands-on, field-oriented environment and can bridge the gap between engineering innovation and operational execution.
Responsibilities:
- Supports the new product development process by procuring prototypes, tools, supporting production, and other duties as assigned.
- Create and maintain accurate 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and documentation/specification.
- Make revisions and maintain existing 3D models, drawings, and BOMs. and assist with the distribution of drawings and documents.
- Work on special projects, as required to support design and drafting requirements.
- Perform dimensional fit checks.
- Prepare assembly or component drawings from sketches and marked-up prints.
- Interface with the manufacturing team to ensure that drawings reflect design for manufacturing best practices
- Interface with internal customers to get clarification or information for the mechanical design requirements.
- Participate in assembly and testing as needed to make design improvements.
- Participate in creation of manufacturing, operations and marketing documentation
- Visit field locations to address customer applications as required.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher in a science or technical discipline from an accredited institution
- 10 years of design experience in the oil and gas industry working in component design, including specification of design requirements and design development support.
- 10 years of drafting experience in mechanical design.
- Strong understanding of oilfield equipment materials, stress considerations, and service lifecycle expectations.
- Knowledge about artificial lift systems such as Electrical Submersible Pump, Rod Pump, and/or Gas Lift is a plus
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in field-based, hands-on environments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude to convert verbal communication into 3D modeling and drawing.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric dimensioning & tolerance).
- Familiarity with low carbon steel, chrome alloy steel, and coatings.
- Familiarity with manufacturing process, i.e. casting, machining, heat treat, and fabrication along with assembly processes.
- Experience with 3D printing is a plus.
- Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM required
- Experience with SolidWorks Admin is a plus
- Self-starter, highly organized, able to multitask and work independently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
