What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Behavior Coach position at Hudsonville Public Schools?
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Special Services, a Behavior Coach would assist individual teachers, buildings, and district systems in the application of positive behavior interventions, specifically Tier III interventions. The Behavior Coach would educate, model, and coach staff in implementing best practices in behavioral support within a multi-tiered system of support.
Description:
- Provide leadership and support to mental health needs across the district through inter-agency connections, gathering and disseminating research and resources, providing staff training and assisting families in connecting with appropriate agencies at a Tier III support level
- Work collaboratively with district administration to lead professional development for individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on areas related to teaching and supporting positive behaviors.
- Serve as a behavioral consult to administrators, school staff, IEP teams and parents
- Provide leadership in the classroom and school setting through modeling the use of highly effective positive behavior interventions and supports in the classroom
- Facilitate team meetings with the completion of Functional Behavior Analysis and Behavior Intervention Plans
- Facilitate the completion of Emergency Intervention Plans, as necessary
- Support implementation of best practices in behavior management, trauma-informed care, special education processes and procedures, and care coordination
- Use ongoing assessments and data collection tools to record and monitor student and district level progress
- Assist with student crisis intervention
- Attend professional development opportunities to maintain high level of knowledge of current research and practices
- Train and track staff on non-violent crisis intervention, CPI (Crisis Prevention protocol)
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services
Education and/or Experience:
- Highly qualified special education teacher or other special education service provider with full State of Michigan approvals, endorsements, or certification
- Bachelor's Degree, Master Degree in related field preferred
- Minimum of three years of experience working with students with behavioral challenges
- Experience working with students in categorical programs preferred
- Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding seclusion and restraint, CPI trainer preferred
- Extensive knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
- Extensive knowledge and experience in assessing the function of student behaviors and developing positive behavior intervention plans
- Implementation and/or coaching school personnel on research based classroom management and individualized behavioral interventions
- Collection, summarization, and actionizing behavioral data
- Exceptional collaboration and leadership skills
