Hudson Regional Health System (HRHS) seeks a results-driven and collaborative laboratory leader to oversee outpatient diagnostic and clinical laboratory operations the system. The Director is accountable for ensuring regulatory compliance, service quality, and operational efficiency across outpatient services, supporting HRHS’s mission of delivering exceptional, patient-centered care.
Position Summary
The Director of Outpatient Lab Services manages all outpatient laboratory functions for Hudson Regional Health, including technical operations, process improvement, strategic growth, compliance, and financial performance. This position is based in Hudson Regional Health - Bayonne University Hospital while ensuring consistency, quality, and innovation across all outpatient lab functions and working in close collaboration with the inpatient Director and other lab supervisors.
This position reports directly to the HRH-Bayonne University Hospital Chief Hospital Executive.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee daily operations of outpatient clinical laboratory services
· Ensure full compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA, FDA, and applicable state regulations.
· Supervise outpatient laboratory teams, including supervisors, technical personnel, and phlebotomists.
·Maintain appropriate staffing, scheduling, and budgetary controls to ensure cost-effective performance.
· Collaborate with hospital executives, medical directors, outpatient facilities, and clinical departments to support patient care initiatives.
· Lead continuous quality improvement and performance optimization efforts.
· Manage equipment procurement, service contracts, and laboratory supply chains necessary for successful outpatient lab functions.
· Partner with IT and system teams to standardize data, reporting, and laboratory information systems.
· Track and report KPIs, turnaround times, and quality metrics to system leadership.
· Participate in HRHS system-level meetings and cross-facility standardization initiatives.
Leadership & Collaboration
· Serve as the administrative and operational leader for outpatient laboratory services.
· Collaborate directly system executives to align goals and share best practices.
· Work closely with other HRHS laboratory leaders to advance system standardization and integration.
· Promote employee engagement, professional development, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, Medical Technology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
· Current licensure and national certification (ASCP, NCA, or AMT) required.
· Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in laboratory management, including multi-site leadership preferred.
· Outpatient and Reference Lab experience required.
· Deep understanding of regulatory requirements, budget management, and process improvement methodologies.
· Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
