SUMMARY:

The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) is to provide "Athletic Training Services"* to student athletes with Hudson Public Schools under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with Massachusetts state athletic training practice act.

 

This position will work a flexible schedule with the understanding that during the school year much of the expected time will be spent at extracurricular events in the afternoon/evening, including some weekend, holiday, and school vacation week work.This 10 month position runs from mid-August through early June. Applicants must possess a current valid Massachusetts Athletic Trainer (AT) license to be considered for this position.

 

*Athletic Training Services: The management and provision of care of injuries to a physically active person as defined in the state practice act with the direction of a licensed physician. The term includes the rendering of emergency care, development of injury prevention programs and providing appropriate preventative devices for the physically active person. The term also includes the assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of the physically active person whose conditions are within the professional preparation and education of a certified athletic trainer. The term also includes the use of modalities such as mechanical stimulation, heat, cold, light, air, water, electricity, sound, massage and the use of therapeutic exercises, reconditioning exercise and fitness programs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Provide Athletic Training Services to student athletes under the direction of the school physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with state athletic training practice act.
  • Assess injuries and provide emergency or continued care
  • Apply protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces to body parts such as ankles, fingers, or wrists
  • Maintains and updates Athletic Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for all athletic locations.
  • Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and school nurses
  • Advise athletes on the proper use of training room equipment as well as oversee the schedule of the Weightroom
  • Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs
  • Travel with athletic teams in order to be available at sporting events (primarily Football and Playoff Games)
  • Coordinate and oversee registration, concussion training and student physicals of all student athletes at Hudson High School and Quinn Middle School. 
  • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and complete accident forms
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director (including but not limited to, site administrator duties, inventory, purchasing, administrative support, etc.)

 

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Must hold NATABOC and Massachusetts State License Certification
  • Must hold current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
  • Must be able to meet all physical demands of the everyday work load.
  • Must be able to utilize computer and applicable tracking software. 
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, school vacation weeks, and holidays in line with seasonal/playoff game schedule.
  • Familiarity with MIAA rules and regulations per Sports Medicine Coverage and Athletic procedures preferred
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

WORK YEAR BENEFITS:    

  • 10-Month Position: This is a salaried position requiring a flexible work schedule. The work year typically runs from mid-August through early June, beginning approximately two weeks prior to the first student day of school. Hours will vary based on the athletic season, including occasional evening and weekend responsibilities as needed. The annual work calendar and schedule will be determined by the Director of Athletics.
  • Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000
  • Annual Travel stipend $1,500
  • 3 personal days and 12 sick days prorated pursuant to date of hire.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Athletic Trainer

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Sit, stand and walk for required periods of time.
  • The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping, pushing and pulling of arm controls and fine manipulations. The work is repetitive. The work, at times, requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching with the ability to lift, carry, push and pull light weights.

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
