Duties
- Install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems including air conditioning units, heating equipment, ventilation systems, refrigeration units, boilers, and building automation controls.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical diagrams, and electrical wiring diagrams to troubleshoot system issues effectively.
- Perform electrical diagnostics using tools such as ohmmeters and multimeters to identify faults within electrical systems.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on HVAC/R equipment to ensure efficient operation and compliance with safety standards.
- Diagnose mechanical problems using specialized tools like welders, hand tools, and mechanical testing devices; execute repairs or recommend replacements as needed.
- Service plumbing components associated with HVAC systems and ensure proper integration with mechanical systems for seamless operation.
- Maintain detailed service records, complete work orders accurately, and communicate findings clearly to clients or team members.
- Support HVAC system design modifications or upgrades by collaborating with engineers or project managers.
- Adhere to safety protocols including EPA certification requirements for refrigerant handling and ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Drive service vans safely between job sites while managing time efficiently for multiple service calls per day.
Experience
- Proven experience as an HVAC technician or service technician with a strong understanding of HVAC/R systems.
- Construction experience or property maintenance background is highly desirable for understanding building infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC system installation, repair, and maintenance in commercial or industrial settings.
- Knowledge of schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, mechanical systems repair, and refrigeration principles.
- Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) for controlling HVAC functions remotely or automatically.
- Mechanical knowledge complemented by experience in plumbing, welding, appliance repair, or boiler operation is advantageous.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical diagnostics using appropriate testing equipment such as ohmmeters or field meters.
- Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients while providing professional solutions.
- Valid EPA certification for refrigerant handling; additional certifications in ammonia refrigeration or electrical systems are a plus.
- Mechanical skills developed through hands-on work with hand tools, welding equipment, or equipment repair projects.
