Brief Description
The Lead Operator supervises daily plant operations and special projects and supports plant leadership in ensuring efficient, compliant, and safe facility performance. This individual supervises, trains, mentors, and develops Process Technicians and Specialists, while conducting daily reviews of data, managing schedules, and overseeing plant projects. Leadership and a strong background in wastewater treatment operations and data analysis are key.

Job Requirements
Education
Required
- High School Diploma or GED and Completion of HRSD’s Apprenticeship Program or applicable training, and experience.
- OR Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Or valid Virginia Class I Wastewater Operator’s License or equivalent and a High School Diploma or GED.
Experience
Required
- Four years of experience in wastewater treatment.
- Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft products.
Desired
- Experience in a similar position at a wastewater treatment plant.
- Experience leading teams or projects.
- Experience with public procurement.
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- Valid driver’s license from state of residence
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Virginia Class I Wastewater Operator’s License or equivalent within four years of the start date in the position and must be actively pursued.
- Must possess or be able to obtain Water Quality QA/QC certification within 6 months.
- Federal and Virginia Port Authority Transportation Workers Identification Credentials for staff required to access the Army Base Treatment Plant
