Position Summary
As a Lumber and Delivery Operations Manager at Hartville Hardware, you are responsible for overseeing the daily operations of delivery and our lumber yard. Your role includes managing inventory, optimizing workflow, and ensuring a high standard of customer service. You lead a team of employees while ensuring product handling and yard operations run efficiently. With your background in retail, logistics, or building materials, you bring strong organizational and management skills, as well as a focus on continuous improvement to enhance overall operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
? Operational Management:
? Oversee all daily operations of the lumber yard, order fulfillment, and product delivery.
? Ensure the efficient and safe receipt, storage, and distribution of building materials.
? Monitor and improve operational processes to ensure maximum productivity and cost-efficiency.
? Encourages drivers to keep up the appearance of the trucks
? Schedules yard and drivers weekly
? Oversees property maintenance and schedules repairs as needed. Also maintains registrations, insurance and documentation for drivers.
? Verifies items are pulled and ready for transfer trucks
? Staff Supervision and Training:
? Lead, train, and motivate the operations team, including yard staff, and delivery drivers
? Conduct check-ins and identify development opportunities to improve team performance.
? Ensure all staff members are following safety protocols, company policies, and procedures.
? Ensures all training is completed timely
? Assist with interviewing
? Customer Service:
? Ensure excellent customer service by addressing customer inquiries and resolving any operational issues or complaints.
? Collaborate with sales and delivery teams to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
? Improve processes for customer interactions to enhance satisfaction and promote repeat business.
? Safety and Compliance:
? Monitor safety practices in the yard and warehouse, ensuring all activities comply with OSHA and company safety guidelines.
? Ensure employees use the proper safety equipment and follow procedures for material handling, equipment operation, and hazardous materials.
? Conduct regular meetings to reinforce safety standards and reduce the risk of accidents.
? Schedules DOT physicals yearly at time of renewal
? Schedules driving and lift certifications for staff with Dan Yoder
? Ensures accident reports get completes as needed
? Budgeting and Reporting:
? Assist in the preparation and management of the yard’s operational budget, focusing on cost control, waste reduction, and efficiency improvements.
? Prepare regular reports for management and operational updates.
? Continuous Improvement:
? Identify and implement improvements to increase operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer service.
? Miscellaneous Job Duties:
? Collects pre-trip forms from drivers weekly
? Oversees dispatch
? Organizes lunches/meetings
? Helps deliver material with ASAP deliveries as needed
? Inspects fire extinguishers and schedules yearly inspection with fire inspector
Qualifications
? Education:
? Bachelor’s degree in business management, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
? High school diploma or equivalent required.
? Experience:
? 5 years of experience in operations, logistics, or supply chain management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
? Experience in the hardware, lumber, or building materials industry is highly preferred.
? Skills:
? Strong leadership and team management skills.
? Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
? Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
? Proficient in inventory management, safety protocols, and customer service best practices.
? Physical Requirements:
? Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
? Comfortable working in an outdoor or warehouse environment with varying weather conditions.
? Ability to stand, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods as needed.
