The Farm, Pet, and Turf Sales Specialist (FPT) embodies a customer first and team first attitude and serves as the area expert. The FPT Specialist is the primary driver of sales in these categories - both internally and externally in the store.

As FPT Specialist (Role Specific):

• Drives both internal and external sales of all categories, especially the turf (grass seed, fertilizer, engraving, etc). This may require scheduled time outside of the store in order to recruit new business. As such times arise, the FPT Specialist ensures proper coverage and staffing in their absence while communicating to the area manager.

• Assists in the farm, pet, and turf pricing and marketing decisions alongside the relevant Merchandise Manager.

• Works closely and regularly communicates with the area manager regarding all initiatives, sales and team members related to their area.

• Oversees the day to day operations of the FPT areas, including the East Drive Through.

• Helps to identify and execute ongoing training of all FPT team members in FPT areas.

• Has the ability and often does perform all duties of a farm, pet, and turf team member - including the Yeti engraver.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Competency Statement(s):

• Retail sales - Ability to use appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to gain acceptance of a product, service or an idea. Previous retail sales experience in related fields (turf, feed, etc.) required.

• Customer service oriented - Ability to take care of customers’ needs while following company procedures. 

• Communication skills - Strong oral and written communication skills required.

• Organizational skills - Time and material sales skills. Ability to keep accurate records, data, paperwork. Ability to attend to daily, monthly and yearly calendar goals. Ability to focus on goals to obtain a predetermined result. 

• Problem-Solving ability - Ability to deal with others in a variety of situations, control emotions, and work under stressful situations while implementing viable solutions. 

Other Skills and Abilities:

• Education: High School graduate or GED required; some college-level coursework preferred.

• Computer skills - Working knowledge of computers required.

• Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret and communicate effectively using the English language. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

• Physical requirements: Ability to stand or by on his or her feet for up to 10 hours per day. Ability to carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, less than 50 pounds frequently. Walking, sitting, and climbing ladders is often required. Willingness to be forklift certified for use in the East drive through.

Work Environment: 

Working primarily in a climate-controlled environment with a moderate noise level.
