What are the responsibilities and job description for the HR Specialist – Military-to-Civilian Talent Transition (Nashville, TN) position at HRJ Strategies?
About the Opportunity
A client is launching a major veteran-focused initiative in Nashville and is hiring an HR Specialist who understands the realities of military transition. This role is ideal for someone who wants to directly support veterans as they move into meaningful civilian careers.
This is a fast-paced, mission-driven, startup-style environment — not a traditional HR admin role. You’ll build and manage a full talent pipeline for transitioning service members, veterans, Guard/Reserve, and military spouses.
What You’ll Do
Veteran Talent Pipeline
- Engage transitioning service members, veterans, Guard/Reserve, and spouses
- Conduct intake conversations and structured screenings
- Translate MOS/AFSC/ratings into civilian language
Career Coaching
- Provide 1:1 and small-group coaching
- Support resume development, interviewing, networking, and culture transition
- Guide veterans toward realistic, high-opportunity career paths
Employer Matching
- Understand employer needs and success profiles
- Match candidates based on skills, potential, and fit
- Prepare veterans for interviews and debrief afterward
Data & Process
- Track candidate progress and outcomes
- Maintain accurate records in ATS/CRM tools
- Improve repeatable processes for outreach, intake, and placement
Who Thrives in This Role
- 3–6 years in HR, recruiting, workforce development, or career services
- Direct connection to the military community (prior service, Guard/Reserve, spouse, or veteran-serving org experience)
- Strong ability to translate military experience into civilian terms
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple candidates
- Motivated by measurable impact and veteran success
Why This Matters
This role directly supports veterans entering the civilian workforce — helping them navigate identity shifts, culture changes, and career alignment. You’ll be the bridge between military talent and employers who want to hire them.
