David A Smith Printing is currently seeking a Full-Time Cutter Folder Operator. Their primary role will be supporting fulfillment and packaging activities, including gathering multiple items for packaging and, collating and preparing items for shipment. This individual may also do deliveries as needed at times. Experience, although an asset, isn’t required, as we will train candidates who are willing to learn.
Position Summary
The Cutting & Folder Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining cutting and folding equipment to ensure high-quality, accurately finished printed materials. This hybrid role requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read and interpret job tickets, layouts, and specifications, and a keen eye for detail throughout all stages of production. The ideal candidate will ensure precise cuts and fold configurations, perform routine equipment maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and maintain consistent productivity. The Cutter Folder Operator works collaboratively with press operators, bindery staff, and production supervisors to support an efficient workflow, meet deadlines, and uphold all safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot cutting machines (e.g., guillotine cutters.
- Set up and operate folder machines (e.g., combination folders) according to job specifications and production schedules.
- Read and interpret job tickets, layouts, and folding diagrams.
- Review printed materials for accuracy, color consistency, alignment, and defects before cutting or folding.
- Adjust machine settings—including rollers, guides, plates, feeders, and cutting parameters—to achieve precise cuts and proper fold configurations.
- Perform quality checks throughout production to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machine issues such as jams, misfeeds, or mechanical problems.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, including blade changes, cleaning, lubrication, and general upkeep.
- Stage and organize materials for cutting and folding to maintain efficient workflow.
- Monitor production output and maintain productivity standards.
- Work collaboratively with press operators, bindery staff, and production managers to coordinate job flow.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Ensure finished products meet company and client quality standards before moving to packaging or finishing.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License
- Experience operating commercial printing folder machines (MBO, Stahl, Horizon, or similar) preferred.
- Ability to understand and interpret production specs and folding layouts.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to stand, lift, and move materials throughout the shift (weights vary by facility).
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Hours
7:30am to 4pm with 30 minutes lunch at Noon
Salary
$20 - $21/hour
