What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Mill Operator position at APX Mitchell Machine Shop?
APX is seeking a skilled CNC Mill Operator with setup and programming experience to join our Mitchell Machine Shop team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision metal components. You will work closely with our engineering and quality teams to ensure parts meet exact specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to understand machining requirements.
- Set up CNC milling machines, including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and program loading.
- Operate CNC machines to perform precise milling, drilling, and tapping operations.
- Inspect first-piece and in-process parts to verify conformance using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Adjust machine settings, tool wear offsets, and programs as needed to maintain quality and tolerances.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and work area.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on process improvements and problem-solving.
- Maintain accurate production records and logs.
- Follow all safety protocols and company policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical trade school certification preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of milling experience, including setup and programming.
- Strong understanding of programming and experience with CNC controllers (Fanuc, Haas, etc.).
- Proficient with precision measuring instruments and interpreting technical drawings.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot machining issues.
- Strong attention to detail, quality-minded, and safety-conscious.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in a shop environment with noise, dust, and machinery.

Pay: $21.00 - $29.17 per hour
